About Me.

There have been amazing quotes by incredible people throughout history that I could have used to represent myself on this page, so why did I choose to use a line from Doctor Who? Well, besides being a self-described nerd, and a huge fan of the television series, I’ve felt this line resonate within me from the moment I heard it.

Always the optimist.

Like many others, I’ve faced adversity in my life and have been exposed to others who have faced far more so than I. What has shaped my life, however, are not the challenges or successes themselves, but in the attitude in which we face these challenges and in the refusal to accept defeat. Recently, my life was touched by an woman named Cindy Bentley. I had the opportunity to speak with Cindy and learn her story this past year through my community outreach work supporting individuals living with developmental disabilities. Throughout the incredible and heartbreaking challenges she experienced growing up as a foster child with special needs, Cindy maintained an unbelievable spirit full of hope, optimism, and forgiveness for those who had wronged her. (Cindy’s story can be purchased here Cindy Bentley: Spirit of a Champion).

The hoper of far-flung hopes and dreamer of improbable dreams.

“I think that there’s a certain delusional quality that all successful people have to have. You have to believe that something different than what has happened for the past 50 million years can happen. Being realistic is the most commonly travelled road to mediocrity.

What’s the point of being realistic?

It’s unrealistic to walk into a room, flip a switch, and have light come on, but fortunately Edison didn’t think so.” – Will Smith

I’ve been taught that the most profound limitations I face in life, lie within the constraints of my own mind. Growing up, I watched as my mother overcame the odds as a young mother of two children, working multiple jobs to put food on the table while putting herself through college, grad school and finally law school. Despite the many challenges, I watched my mother achieve all of her dreams by refusing to give up. Her journey is what inspired me to join the Executive Board of the Wisconsin Women in Action Affinity Networking Group. My work within the group as Community Outreach Lead is to focus on empowering and developing young girls and women within Wisconsin through outreach, advocacy & awareness campaigns, providing support & resources, and career fairs focused on providing opportunities to encourage women to venture into the technology & wireless industries.

 So who am I?

That’s a hard question to answer in a paragraph. I’ve been told I’m a “creative analytic” by various leaders throughout my career. I’m expressive and enthusiastic. I’ve found my work volunteering and supporting various groups within the community has brought some of the most fulfilling & rewarding moments of my life. Because of this I hope to share this message and use the contagious nature of the joy helping others can bring, to increase interest in these areas. I am a wife, a sister, a daughter and a “mother” to three adorable albeit ridiculous rescue dogs.

I’m a “science geek”. I find the intricacies and mysterious of the cosmos to be fascinating. and I am always captivated by the discussions and debates surrounding them. I love to cook, travel and enjoy the great outdoors.

Want to know something more? I’m an open book, just ask.

Hi Alex, I apologize for the delayed response as I was having some technical difficulties with my site. I’m excited to hear you’re interested in getting involved! What types of things interest you? I have loved working with SOAR Fox Cities, which supports individuals living with developmental disabilities and their families. They have several options for volunteering whether you’re looking to commit to something on a regular basis, or just a one off opportunity. You can find their volunteer options by visiting . Big Brothers Big Sisters is another great option locally, but requires more of a commitment. Let me know what you’re looking for and I’d be happy to help you get a foot in the door with my contacts!
